Lockdown Alert System
Understand the challenges that schools can face around lockdown situations and how to prepare and protect your community.

Making schools a safer place
Procedures to protect staff and students in the event of an emergency have never been more important. Whether evacuating in the event of a fire or invacuating to a safe room if there is a problem on or around site, it’s important there is a clear and efficient alert - one that is easily distinguishable to all and encourages the correct response to each situation.
The DfE recommends schools and other education establishments to utilise different alert sounds to alert to specific events - giving everyone a clear, quick message that doesnt put anybody in danger when triggering an alarm.
With an efficient and distinct alert you're able to minimise the time your community needs to react and stay safe.
Why do schools need a lockdown system?
School specific crime is increasing at the same time that we’re seeing a UK-wide exponential rise in violent knife related incidents. A joint CQC, HMICFRS, HMI Probation and OFSTED report from November 2024 found that, as of 2023, 1 in 4 children either had been a victim of violence or had perpetrated violence themselves.
This highlights the need for efficient and effective school security that is prepared for all eventualities. One that is robust to reduce/prevent the chance of injury if an incident were to occur.
Key to the success of these procedures is a strong and reliable communication system - getting the right message out as quickly and efficiently to as many people as possible.
The importance of practice
Every school practises their fire drills with a known safe space for evacuations. But what if evacuating isn't safe due to an intruder or there are dangerous conditions outside? Then an invacuation or a full lockdown needs to take place. How do you alert an entire school to the difference and keep procedures fresh in people's minds?
It's important to practise your school lockdown procedures not only so students and staff can recognise what to do following an alert, but also so you can refine procedures and avoid unnecesary problems in the case of a real lockdown occuring.
Your Lockdown Alert System

School-wide connection
A lockdown alert system needs to be fully capable of covering any school both inside and outside the building, offering an instant alert at the push of an emergency alert button.

Clarity and Alertness
Invacuation and Lockdown alerts have to be unique and clear in their purpose.
Setting a specific alarm sound with a pre recorded announcement that can be configured to exactly what you need is the best way to increase safety.
